Most of you probably don’t know that my wife and I are neopagan wiccans (or what that even is). But today is the Celtic pagan holiday of Imbolc.

Imbolc is a “cross-quarter holiday” on the Wheel of the Year, one of the eight festivals of modern witches. Cross-quarters are the celebrations of the halfway points of the seasons. So, Imbolc is the halfway mark of Winter. And boy is it Winter, alright.

Excuse the mess on our deck, but this was the snow this morning.

An “extreme cold” weather event has hit our home in South Carolina and our town is more or less shutdown for the day because of it. My wife and I both grew up in much colder areas of the country (Washington state for me, Michigan for her) so we’re fine but S.C. is simply not equipped for Winter.

We took in a couple stray cats for the day. These boys usually live under our deck in the back, but considering it was “feels like 11 degrees” outside, we let them in the house, probationally. We’re both horribly allergic to cats, unfortunately.

Honestly, this holiday really snuck up on me so I didn’t make plans for a seasonal feast dinner or any fun crafts. I promise to do better next time! We have the Spring equinox, Ostara, to look forward to on March 20.
